In ancient times, Greece was known for being the cradle of Western society. Today, this Mediterranean country owes its fame to its impressive archaeological sites - with the Parthenon as the national emblem - and to its paradisiacal islands that offer idyllic beaches, Mediterranean culture and a privileged environment such as that of Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Thermisia.
The Peloponnese peninsula is one of the most sought-after destinations for those who want to get to know the true Greek character, away from the great tourist crowds. Nafplio is one of those villages, with its immense fortress, that have sprung up around a bay and in which you can almost touch the Mediterranean temperament. Although if we talk about bays, one of the most beautiful in the area is Navarino, a paradise for divers, with several sunken wrecks included: three Ottoman ships from the Greek War of Independence.
In addition to the landscapes, the Peloponnese is home to the impressive theatre of Epidaurus. Sitting in one of its stands and checking the acoustics of the place will send shivers down your spine: from the top you can hear what is being said on stage, even if it is in a low voice.
Less than an hour from the theater is Thermisia, a small town where staying at Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Thermisia is a delight as the views are extraordinary. From its port you can see the island of Hydra, with a surface area of barely 50 km, and a singular beauty. Its main city coils around the port, with houses at different heights. One of the main features of the island is that motor vehicles are prohibited. To get there, there's nothing like getting on a boat, watching its bay slowly approach from the bow. Therein lies the true Greek character.
